Artist Statement
My work is rooted in Southern tradition. Using the natural motifs of the south to guide my practice, I explore texture and light and southern symbolism through heavy body acrylics, charcoal, and acrylics inks to build my paintings sculpturally layer by layer. Texture is my language and palette knives and brushes allow each piece to be not simply painted, but constructed, inviting touch, shadow, contemplation, and the true study of form. Each collection is designed to feel timeless and anchored in Southern heritage yet contemporary in execution. If you love southern charm and that welcome home feeling you get from front porch sitting and sweet tea drinking, spending time with family and friends who become family, eating outside and enjoying the bounty that the south has to offer then I hope find that in my art. Most of my art centers around capturing the essence of that feeling so that you can display things in your home that bring more than just beauty but also that feeling of home by bringing in the elements of the south that we all know and love. I am inspired by the beauty around me and you should be too.
Watercolor being my first love. I also enjoy creating house portraits and heirloom portraits. Each piece is created as a keepsake focusing on capturing the natural likeness of the subject and preserving tiny details that may only last a season.
